God of War – Ghost of Sparta là một phần ngoại truyện diễn ra giữa God of War và God of War II, đánh dấu lần xuất hiện thứ hai của Kratos trên nền tảng cầm tay. Bị ám ảnh bởi những hình ảnh của mẹ anh, Callisto, bị giam cầm ở Atlantis, Kratos bắt đầu hành trình khám phá quá khứ và cứu em trai Deimos khỏi Thanatos. Lối chơi giữ phong cách của phiên bản trước, giới thiệu các yếu tố mới như Thera’s Bane để nâng cao chiến đấu. Ngoài cốt truyện, người chơi có thể khám phá "Đền Zeus" để sử dụng orb mở khóa hình ảnh và phần thưởng.
